New York, NY - April 20, 2009: New York Festivals announced the winners of the 16th annual Innovative Advertising Awards, honoring the most creative digital, interactive and emerging advertising from around the world. The 2009 competition awarded one prestigious Grand Trophy, fifteen Gold awards, nineteen Silver, twenty-nine Bronze awards and one hundred twenty-eight Finalist Certificates.
Goodby, Silverstein & Partners received the Grand Trophy for the second year in a row for their groundbreaking entry "Hotel 626" for client Doritos. The agency also garnered four Gold medals, two for client Nintendo Wii, and two for clients Sprint and California Fluid Milk Processors Advisory Board.
"Hotel 626" was created to celebrate the "return from the dead" promotion of two special Doritos flavors made available during Halloween. The winning entry is an interactive haunted hotel that takes the viewer through a frightening on line experience combining live action footage with digital environments. Users find themselves trapped in a hotel room with only their webcam, microphone and mobile phone to help them escape. Players must maneuver through darkened hallways, a madman&rsquot;s lair, and sing a demon baby to sleep in order to find their way to safety.
"When we set out to make Hotel 626, we knew we wanted to create something unique: a website that could really scare our audience. With the help of B-reel, we feel that we used technology to truly get under people's skin. The website truly is a testament the power of never saying ‘no.’ No matter how outlandish the request, our good friends at B-reel, the remarkable team here at GS&P and our tremendously courageous clients worked together to push the limits of technology, to break through the barriers of what was possible to create a truly unique user experience," said Rick Condos and Hunter Hindman, Associate Partners/Group Creative Directors, Goodby, Silverstein & Partners.
Eight Gold Medalists were honored from around the globe: Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO of London, England won the Gold medal for their entry "Tipping Point" produced for client Draught Guinness; AKQA Limited, London, England received the Gold medal for their entry "NIKE PHOTOiD" for client Nike; and BETC Euro RSCG of Paris, France, was awarded the Gold medal for "The Ad Auction" for client eBay.
